Construction Project in Kenyan School
![]()
This Primary School is located on a hill, approximately 30 km away from the main road. It has 198 pupils and 7 teachers. The school consists of 9 class rooms and one nursery. Volunteers are welcome to help solving some of the many short comings. Some of them are the bad infrastructure, the lack of clean drinking water, missing windows and doors in the class rooms as well as the danger of infectious diseases due to the dust as class rooms do not have cement floors. The main task is the renovation of the school building. Additionally, you can encourage the community members to support the construction work and the provision of supplies. Hence, you will receive an insight into the culture of the Akamba and the challenges of a third world country.
Accommodation and Meals:
Volunteers are accommodated in the staff rooms which have doors and windows. Therefore your belongings are safe. There is a kitchen for the teachers in which you can prepare your food. There is also a bathroom and a pit latrine. You should be aware of the fact that living standards are not comparable to those in Europe. There is no electricity in this region. Please bring your own sleeping bag. There will be plenty of clean drinking water and water for other purposes provided.
