Medical Volunteer in Ghana
This project aims at the improvement of the rural health care, the reduction of the spread of infectious diseases and the health education in cities and villages. Most of the hospitals and clinics in the rural areas of Ghana are poorly equipped and understaffed. If you do have some medical experience, are a medical student or a nurse, you can contribute a lot to improve the recent situation. You will be integrated in daily business of the clinics through watching and supporting doctors and nurses. You may work in several different fields: gynecology, neurology, orthopedy, obstetrics, surgery or children's medical unit.
Another possibility is working in the dental practice. There are only very few dental practices in Ghana, all of them far behind European standards. Most of the patients have diseases in further developed stadiums than those in Europe. Your help will always be appreciated.
Accommodation and Meals:
You can stay with a host family, where you will receive three meals a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner). There you will have the chance to get to know eating habits and the culture of your open-hearted host family. If you prefer staying in a volunteers' accommodation it is not a problem at all. There you will cook your own meals together with other volunteers.
