Environment Protection Project in Ecuador

Ecuador’s nature is one of the most diverse in the world with rain and cloud forest, mangrove wood and dry forest. Unfortunately many of those natural habitats are destroyed by clearance and desertification. This project enables volunteers to work within the spectacular, Ecuadorian biodiversity and to become an integrative part of the team. Your support aims at the preservation, exploration, environmental education as well as at the organization of Ecuadorian flora, fauna and landscape. Your tasks depend on the length of your stay as well as on your own preferences. In general volunteers can get involved in the following fields of work:

• Tree nursery: The main goal of this project lies on the development and preservation of tree nurseries in national parks and nature reserves. Volunteers` tasks include collecting seeds from trees inside and close to the reserve, planting seeds, nourishing seedlings as well as building fences.
• Reforestation: Awaiting tasks are e.g. clearing the areas, which are to be afforested, preparation of the planting areas, planting trees etc.
• Environment Protection Education: this project educates the people living in the national parks about the importance of maintaining nature. Volunteers are meant to support any teaching work possible.
• Biological cultivation: Volunteers learn a lot about biological cultivation. They help with dibbling, planting, weeding, composting, harvesting, with pest controlling, recycling of biological waste and many more.
