Reconstruction Project in Kenyan School
![]()
This elementary school is located approximately two driving hours away from Nairobi. Nine teachers are teaching about 300 pupils. The school consists of 10 class rooms and the nursery. As a volunteer you can help to tackle some of the many short comings. Some of those are the insufficient learning conditions, the lack of clean drinking water, missing windows and doors in class rooms as well as the danger of infectious diseases due to the dust as classrooms do not have concrete floors. The major task is the construction of the school building. Additionally you are welcome to encourage the community members to support the construction work and the provision with supplies. This way you will receive an insight into the culture of the Akamba and the challenges of a third world country. Besides there is the opportunity to attend HIV awareness raising campaigns.
Accommodation and Meals:
Volunteers will be accommodated in class rooms and will prepare their own meals. Those rooms provide windows and doors. Hence your belongings are safe. The meals will be locally available varying from beans, chapattis, rice, potatoes, vegetables, chocolate, juices, fruits, spaghetti e.t.c.. There will also be plenty of drinking water. You should be aware of the fact that living standards are not comparable to those in Europe or the U.S.. There is no electricity in this region. You have to bring a sleeping bag. There will be plenty of safe drinking water and water for other uses.
