The people in the Volta Region often only know little about the immunity deficiency disease HIV/AIDS. Many of the very poor Ghanaians understand neither the consequences, nor the transmission of this disease. Furthermore, HIV infected people are often abandoned by their own family and by society. There are several fields of action in this project where volunteers can get involved.

You can for example help in one of the well organized clinics for HIV/AIDS infected patients or you can participate in awareness campaigns in the communities close by. Thus the disease shall be explained to the local population to reduce stigmatization of those who are infected. You will be briefed for your work and you will receive an insight into the culture concerning HIV/AIDS.

Additionally you will go on visits at the patients' homes, which should be very interesting as well. Besides you will experience school programs and local workshops. If you like working with children, volunteer work in the orphanage might interest you. The children living there are HIV/AIDS positive. You can play and draw with them, help them with their homework, do sports together and many other things.
