Medical Project in Ecuador
![]()
Ecuadorian hospitals in rural areas and in the slums of larger cities are overcrowded and need any support possible. Goal of this project is to insure basic health care and to provide health education. If you are a medical student or a prospective nurse your can contribute in following fields: gynecology, pediatrics, general medicine, emergency hospitalization, pharmacy, occupational therapy, dentistry etc.
Medical students take part in health education campaigns and prevention and are allowed to take on basic nursery duties. Professional volunteers may help children and their families in specific areas. If you are not medically experienced there will be other important tasks for you, too. Volunteers are involved in the everyday work of Ecuadorian clinics by observing and assisting medical doctors and nurses, administering patients’ data or assisting at the reception desk.
Accommodation and Meals:
Volunteers are placed in carefully picked host families. You will have your own room and three meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) with your host family every day. Furthermore, your laundry will be done once a week for you. You will be integrated completely into the family and take part in their activities as well.
Hence you will receive a unique insight into the culture and population of Ecuador. You will have the chance to prove and improve you Spanish skills day to day. Your host family might be a married couple or a single person with or without children and / or pets. All the host families live close to supermarkets, internet cafes, post offices, malls, bars, restaurants, the historic city centre, night clubs etc.
