Visa New Zealand


In order to make the application for a Visa easier for you, we have gathered the most important facts and information for your internship abroad as follows:

What types of Visa are possible?

  • Working Holiday Visa -  only applicants from Germany
  • Student Visa
  • Work Visa

Studentsgoabroad recommends the Working Holiday Visa for German nationals.


Working Holiday Visa:
                                            

You can only apply for the Working Holiday Visa once in your life. But you have to be between 18 and 30 years old.  There is an unlimited quota for German nationals. It is issued upon entering the country and is valid for 12 months. You can leave and enter the country a few times.

Important: Terms for the Visa application

  • Applicant has to be a German national.
    Applicant has to be at least 18, but not older than 31 years old on day of application.
  • Applicant has to be in possession of a German passport. This has to be valid  for the following period upon applying: „Date of entry in New Zealand and 12 months stay in New Zealand + 3 months"
  • The applicant is not allowed to bring children to New Zealand

What you need

  • Please do not forget a valid passport!
  • A valid return ticket.
  • Sufficient financial means: at least NZ$4.200 to cover the living expenses in New Zealand.
  • Proof of funds can be presented as Traveler's Checks, a credit letter of your bank or a bank statement of an account in your name with a German or New Zealand banking institution.  
  • International health insurance covering the whole duration of your stay.


Student Visa:
(INZ 1012)

Important:

You need a Student Visa if your stay as a student is longer than 3 months. The application process takes approx. 5 weeks. You should therefore apply for it on time. You won't be granted the opportunity to work 20 hrs per week automatically. You will need to consider this when registering.

What
you need:

  • You need to prove sufficient funds for the duration of your stay. You can do this with an account statement and a letter from you parents or a bank.  You have to show for at least  500 € per month.
  • A valid return ticket.
  • A  passport which is valid for at least another 3 months after your  departure date as well as a current passport photo.
  • Receipt of payment of tuition fees to the New Zealand university.
  • Confirmation of accommodation of the respective institution or a private person.
  • Receipt of application fee payment.


Work Visa: (INZ 1015)
recommended for applicants from Austria

Important:

The application and documents need to be at the Embassy 4 weeks before your departure at the latest!  A non-paid, voluntary job and an internship require a work permit! The internship needs to be relevant for your studies!
You need to fill in the documents very careful and completely, because they will be send back to you otherwise. Money transfer and credit cards are not accepted in Berlin although it is on the application form!

What you need:

Item 1-3 of the form requires clear and readable copies only.

  • A signed contract of your future employer in New Zealand. Duration and type of work needs to be stated in the contract.
  • If you are doing an unpaid internship, you need proof of sufficient funds; € 500 per months to cover your living costs in New Zealand. Accepted are bank statements or Travelers Checks.
  • A letter (“approval in principle") confirming that your future employer is allowed to hire foreign employees.  You can find the respective form for your employer here:

  • Students need to present a letter of their university or college in Germany or Austria confirming the relevance of the internship for their studies. 


Application fee is 100€ for Germany and 105€ for Austria.
